One of the many street performers at Festival International, Lafayette, LA
This annual free festival showcases music from all over the French Speaking world, but includes other countries too. Drummers from Shanghai, Latin Hip hop, Cajun music of course, and music from our “cousins” from Quebec and the Eastern Provinces. What does a mix of Irish & Indian music sound like? You will just have to come and see. There is a Fiddle summit and talks by local Brewers. Food, food food, from everywhere. To top it off, ride the Free Shuttle to the venues, which basically take over Downtown Lafayette
Mardi Gras Parades
There is nothing more fun and free to do than Mardi Gras parades. Every year around February or March, thousands of people from flock yearly to celebrate in the revelry. You may not know this but Mardi Gras season actually lasts about a month long and ends with two weeks of daily parades, ending on “Fat Tuesday”. Everyone gets in on the fun, even the children loves to dress up and yell to “Throw me something Mister”. It is a great holiday to have friends and family get together and enjoy a little bit of “Le Bon Ton Roulette”.
